Technical Data

Wax, in its many forms, has been used in household and industrial chemical compounds for centuries.

Anyone familiar with the beading of water on a freshly-waxed car knows that it is water-resistant, protects surfaces from scratching and abrasion, and provides flexibility in how glossy or matte a surface may appear. These are just a few of the applications of wax.

Water-Resistance

Water beads on a wax-treated surface: stained, painted, or treated lumber, a freshly-waxed car, polished floor, concrete, even textiles.

A&W Product, Inc. wax emulsions are used in lumber treatments, stains and textiles, as well as printing inks and coatings to provide a protective barrier for signs.

Surface Protection

The inclusion of a wax emulsion as a component of other chemical compounds can provide sturdy protection for the surface of the finished product.

  • Anti ozone: The effect of "ozone" on a naturally breathable, porous surface such as rubber or latex is one of rapid deterioration, resulting in cracks and tears. Wax emulsions extend the useful lives of everything from automotive tires to latex gloves.
  • Scuff and Scratch Resistance: The protective coatings we use on hardwood floors, our cars, and that keep colors rich and bright in paints and billboard inks are all wax-derived.

Slip Control

Similar to the scope and range of uses for wax emulsions in adhesion, waxes can be formulated for the specific amount of slip each product requires.

  • Mobility: Wax emulsion can create a smooth, slippery surface that will allow products to easily slide against one another for removal from packaging, or placement in storage.
  • Resistance: Wax can also create a non-slip or non-skid surface: floor polish and inclusion in the latex foam or non-slip rubber backing on rugs are examples of this.

Texture Control

Wax emulsions are used on everything from the dashboards of cars to shiny red apples to enhance the look and feel of the textures of objects and products.

  • Touch and Feel: Plastics can be coated with wax emulsions to create a "leather-like" feel, a soft or smooth surface or to help provide a good grip.
  • Sheen: The wax content in paint is partially responsible for how glossy or matte the surface is. Generally, wax emulsions are used as a finishing agent.
